Strange Lightroom Behavior, (Question) - 08-19-2008, 04:01 PM

EDIT!>>>>Just discovered...It isn't Lightroom doing this!!!

Lightroom 2Beta. Mac OSX>Leopard. Canon 1DIII, CR2 files.

When converting my raw files to full size, (100%) jpg. The resulting file sizes fall into one of only two size ranges. They are either 8.4x MB, or 16.8x MB, rarely ever anything in between, unless heavily cropped during conversion. I cannot predict beforehand which file size an image will be after conversion, but it will be either 8.4x MB or 16.8x MB. One of the two! The pixel dimensions are identical on both.

Aperture, as an example of a different converter, gives varied file sizes on those same images.

Has anyone else experienced this?

Any clues as to what is going on here with Lightroom?

This is just a stab in the dark... Is one 8-bit and the other 16-bit? That could account for the doubling of file size.

Thanks John. After researching your thought, I discovered that it is not Lightroom that is doing this. It is a 3rd party program that I use right after Lightroom for watermarking that seems to be doing it!
This program ("iWatermark") must be taking files that are 8 MB or less and making them into a full 8. MB. and any files larger than 8MB are enlarged to 16. MB. How Weird!!! What in the Hell kind of info can it be adding!!!! Time to contact that program's author I think!!!!
