Problem with Lightroom crashing - 08-31-2008, 02:54 PM

Im having a problem with Lightroom. Every time I try to export after editing, the program crashes and doesn't export. The only way I can export is by exporting to DNG, which, as far as I can tell, doesn't save my lightroom changes.. which is pretty pointless it seems. Ive updating lightroom (not to 2, but as high as I can without buying 2) and I don't know why it keeps doing it. Its a fresh install too. Any ideas? It only does it on my desktop, not the laptop.

Are your pics in RAW? What operating system? Any other issues with Lightroom, installed OK? Has it ever worked properly? Is this a brand new installation?

after any Windows update, dll files may be missing.

START>RUN>sfc /scannow

will start the Windows File Checker to replace missing "required" files.

Might be the problem.

LR 2.0 has seen more than its fair share of bug reports. I haven't even installed it - waiting for 2.0.1 to be released!

When you "crash" describe the event? Any error message? What does it say?

Right-click MY COMPUTER choose MANAGE then look down the list until you find EVENT VIEWER > WINDOWS LOGS > APPLICATION then browse the log until you find the ERROR for the LR app.. it will tell you what happened. May be very cryptic, but it does give the full explanation of where to begin.

when i say crash i mean the program just closes on its own and the typical windows error message pops up saying lightroom encountered a problem and has to close and asks if i want to send an error report or not.

Try cleaning out the Lightroom cache and create a new catalog. It's possible you're just out of room.

Are you also using the default export settings? Also, if you look at the top of the export module, there is pull down menu for different methods other than the ones in the left column.

Go under preferences, then file handling. This screen shot is from Lightroom 2.0 but should be similar in your version.

Interesting, the error message tells us that Lightroom.exe is having a problem with its own file, diskburning.dll. This isn't a Windows file, it's Adobe's. Since this is a fresh install, you could try removing the progam (ADD/REMOVE PROGRAMS) and then re-install. May resolve the issue and may just give the same error again.

Do a search of your computer (include system and hidden files) for DISKBURNING.DLL

See if you have multiple copies on your machine. If you do, what directory are the extra files in?
