So I finally took the fireproof safe in and had it opened. A box full of negatives like I thought. Most of them are 4.5 x 2.75. Is that a wierd size? Can you make negatives any size you want?

That is a strange size. Are you sure they aren't 2 1/4" x 3 1/4"? I know there are some wierd sizes out there like half and quarter plate. I'm not even sure what the dimensions of those are. I've not heard of 4 1/2" x 2 3/4".

Are they in decent shape? They can be scanned on something like the Epson 4990-V700 or the Microtek M1.

Kodak 616 film.

Well, not "any". But there are several formats in 120 film: 645, 6x6, 6x7, 6x9, 612, 617 ... Even in 35mm there are the pano formats that may stretch anywhere from 58mm long to 65mm depending on the camera. In sheet films, there is everything from 2.25x3.35 up to 20x24, with all sorts of various sizes and aspect ratios in between.
