Helicon Focus - 09-10-2008, 11:16 PM

Just thought I'd pass this on to you guys...... especially you macro shooters. In studio, we've been using Helicon focus software to shoot some macro stuff. It's pretty cool and does a good job at achieving greater DOF. It's way easier then compositing multiple layers and creating masks, which we were doing at first. So, think how HDR software, like photomatix, does for exposure, but this is for focusing to get greater DOF. This particular shot was taken just messing around, using a Hasselblad, 150mm with a 22mm extension tube and a P30+ digi back. 1/125 f/11 (I think, coulda been f/8.5) We shot this with only 3 focuses (we were shooting 7/8 on are actual products).

Here's a link to their site if you're interested...... Hope you enjoy!

Hmm... I downloaded it and treated it badly by using three images that weren't exactly aligned. The results weren't that great BUT I didn't take a lot of time with it and admittedly I was asking a lot from the software. I like their 30 day trial. That's a generous amount of time to test something.

Weird... I thought I linked it.....

Nice attempts Michael. We are finding that if there isn't any movement, it doesn't line up very well. I guess its best for macro still life stuff more then anything.
