PS CS4 - who's buying and why - 09-25-2008, 04:34 PM

Being a NAPP member, I am always being given reasons, or not, to try software.

PS is no exception. I have found that the extended version of PS could really be a useful tool.

One thing that the extended version does that others do not is remove objects between two photos that are different.

Take for example, people walking through a mall and you want a photo of the mall without the peoplel. You take a photo of the mall, then on the exact same settings and (preferably on a tripod), take another photo a little later. PS extended has the ability to identify the pixels that changed from one photo to the next and eliminate them so that you are left with a much cleaner version, if not cleaned.

This has many, many uses when you are taking photos in some foreign place you think is great and have the photo op of a lifetime, but there are objects in the way, like people, muddying up the waters of your shot.

Therefore, for others, but this one prime reason, I will be upgrading to CS4 extended.

Take care,

I skipped CS3, I think its time. Plus I found a link to get 15% off the upgrade:

Welp, I just ordered via download....seems strange to delay a download so long:

As Scott Kelby said in his video ... "Camera Raw" ... his description of a few of the new features is enough reason for me to upgrade. I've got to look at the other videos, but that sold me.

Actually Pat,

CS3 can do that today using the Image Stacks functionality.

Only in CS3 Extended, I believe.

Doh, should have read the OP more closely didn't realize Pat was already talking about Extended. Seems like a pretty high price if that's the only functionality you want from Extended though, from what I recall most of the other Extended features were of little or not interest to most photogrpahers.

If you are a NAPP member, you get 15% off the $199.00 upgrade for CS4.

It is set for release on 10/14/08 so I will wait my turn.

All they are showing is PS CS4 Extended in Mac or Windows. Odd.

I am buying it because of it's 64bit native and can use the raw power of my GPU. Glad my videocard can be utilized for other things than gaming.

Greetings Pat:

I hope you faired well with the storm. I stayed with CS2 and skipped CS3. I think its time, so I preordered the CS4upgrade. It will probably take me until the release of CS6 before I know what I'm doing.

I think I am going to wait and see what CS4 can do before I go out and get it. I am still trying to get comfortable with CS3.

I'm getting CS4. I'm on the even numbered CS upgrade plan.
