Fixing Arm - 09-26-2008, 04:44 PM

I have a photo of a bride and groom that they really liked. They told me they want to blow it up big, but that she was worried about her arm.

I tried running the photo through Imagenomic Portraiture and Noiseware to smooth the arm out, but wasn't getting the right effect. I ended up doing light retouching with the clone and healing brush tools.

What do you guys think? Do you think she will like it? I am posting the before photo first, and the after (retouched) photo second.

What is up Bobby? How are things?

Great photo but I think the edit is to smooth and does not show enough texture for me. How big are you going to print it? I think an 8 x 10 or above will be noticeable.

If you put a catch light in their eyes and lighten them a bit I think most people will only look at their faces.

Hi Bobby,

I don't want to detract from any positive things about your image. However, the crotch shot just really bothers me and takes my attention away from the real purpose of the image. I do like the concept though.

i see what you are saying Wil, there were a bunch of other poses for them to choose from, but this is the one they selected themselves

they said they want to blow it up larger, maybe 11x14 or something

anyhow, i did started from scratch and worked on their eyes and did a little less on the arm

any CC is appreciated

i think both edits are acceptable. the thing that bothers me the most is the darkness of her armpit now that the biceps shadow has been tweaked and lightened the under arm is going to be more noticeable. its just the darkest part in the area. i would lighten (and NOT trying to be mean) from the second wrinkle/fold down. try to match the inner elbow shadowing. its just one of those things. one begets the other. just my two cents worth........

The "second wrinkle" seems to be the root of all the issues. Get rid of it completely and lighten the underarm. Also I lightened the elbow area "dimple" on the other arm to make it also appear a bit slimmer.

PS. I am also not a big fan of the crotch shot, very distracting. My eyes went straight for it.

Maybe if you were to "dull out" the lighter seams in the jeans? Right now, it's a big ol' X marks the spot.

I really like it but I noticed this lady's arm on stone is pretty white but other than that nice pose, though, I have to agree with others about crotch. LOL
