First off - I love Lightroom 2, but I've noticed quite a few performance problems particularly when using the adjustment brush - general sluggishness, delay etc. I don't think it's a hardware issue. Although my computer is 4 years old, it's relatively fast (Pentium 4 with 3 GHz proc and 3 GB RAM). After some Googling I discovered several posts that related the poor performance to nVidia video cards (which I have - a nice one too).
Soooo... before I go out and get a new video card, I was wondering if there was anyone in the Fort Worth or Mid-Cities area running LR2 that I could come and see your setup and see if your performance is really much better than mine.

i find it a little slow with the brushes sometimes. it like pauses occasionally. but generally it runs well. except on my backup drive, remote networked mybook 1 terabyte with 30,000 photos runs awful.
on my local disk drive on main computer with 4,000 - 10,000 it runs good with normal processing. i understand release 2.1 will speed up brushes etc.

I highly recommend checking out this place. http://www.lightroomforums.net
From what I've learned over there, nVidia video cards have performance issues inside of LR. Looked at these threads to help you out. http://www.lightroomforums.net/showt...ghlight=nvidia http://www.flickr.com/groups/adobe_l...7607074073712/

Have you tried the 2.1 public beta release. Lot's of people are finding it resolved the performance issues.

2.1 seems to be working well on mine with an Nvidia 8600 in my box. HOWEVER, Since version 1.0, when I have been working in a collection of a few hundred images for a couple of hours, going back and forth between PS and LR...Inevitably, LR will lockup and then close down. They still have not fixed the memory management in that app. Easy to work around, but when I get on a marathon editing spree, I just have to expect to restart the app every so often. Annoying, but I still love the app.

If you look closely at the 2.1 release, the adjustment brush is still in process in terms of improvement.
I venture to guess it will be completed with a 2.2 release just prior to the release of camera raw 5 in CS4 (est. date of release 10/14/2008) since Adobe released LR 2 early with these problems to get the dings out so that their release of CS4 with the new ACR 5 would be less buggy.
I am convinced this is what they did, else, it cannot explain the major LR 2 issues and timing of release of CS 4.

Same sluggish response with just normal processing on a p4 4gb machine with a Matrox Parhelia card using dual screen.
