If you shoot outdoors day or night, this application could be a lifesaver.
When opened, it will show you the angles of the sun and the moon as they rise and set on your subject location on any day of the year. If you are going to shoot at a location you aren't familiar with, that can make a huge difference in the time of day you schedule to shoot.
The default location is somewhere in Turkey, IIRC. Just click and drag the cursor to wherever you are and it will remain there the next time you open it. Locations show just like Mapquest, maps or satellite photo. Zoom in or out.

I haven't looked at every post in this thread, but I did do a search of the forum for "magick", and didn't find ImageMagick listed. It's another suite of command line applications that started in UNIX / Linux world, and are now available on Windows.

I've used it for years, and have written some shell scripts (batch files) to modify images (size, format, and using ExifTool to copy EXIF data from a TIFF to a PNG of the same image).

I haven't found a better free image editor with the power GIMP has! (note* Install the GTK+ file before installing the main program.)
I can't believe it either! It's the closest thing to Photoshop I've ever found. It's had a version of content aware fill for years which works perfectly. The only thing it lacks that Photoshop has that I would love is adjustment layers. No real problem, it's just a convenience. There are dozens and dozens of fantastic plugins, and more all the time. Currently, it's 8 bit with some 16 bit internal processing (GEGL). Version 2.8 will be out this year, and the full 16 bit version 3.0 is in the works.

Another very important freebee is Rawtherapee ver. 3.0. As it's name suggests, it's a raw converter -- loaded with incredible features which rival those in ACR. Quite an incredible program, actually.
