LR problems - 10-11-2008, 10:04 AM

Alright here is the situation. I went to load pictures from an assignment this morning and when I put in my CF card LR froze up. I pulled up Activity Monitor and it showed that LR was not responding and that the Mass Storage process was also non responsive. I force quit both and opened LR to see if it would work. Sure enough no problems but as soon as I put in the card again both processes froze.

I'm using Sandisk 8g Extreme IIIs and my first card loaded fine and its only the second one that is an issue. Both are brand new first time to use them.

Corrupt card? Bad format?

Thanks for the help.

Can you see the contents of the card from another program? Windows Explorer or Finder (don't know if you are PC or Mac)? If so, its probably not the card.

I was going to ask the same, can you see the card anywhere else other than Lightroom? You might also want to check the integrity of the Lightroom database to be sure there are no problems there.

Yeah I can view them in finder with no problem. They function in the camera as well. I really hope my LR catalog isn't screwed up urgh.

OPTIMIZE the database... Copy the files to the machine manually, then just IMPORT /Add Files from Existing location on your HD (vs. Copy to new location). I am betting you just need to reformat that card (once you manually copy the files off).

NEVER pull into LR directly from the card. Always use Windows Explorer to COPY the files from the card to the hard drive. Then import them into LR from the hard drive. LR is notorious about importing directly from the card. It's just weird like that.

Interesting I have never had a problem on my Mac or Windows machines with either version 1 or 2. However I always copy files from my card to a back up external drive before importing to my management software, I'm just paranoid about not trusting anything be it software or hardware :)
