Well, a while back I asserted that Adobe would not release CS4 until they have clearly fixed the LR2 adjustment brush issues.

I contended that LR2 was released so much earlier than CS4 so as to find out what the bugs would be and the tolerance thereof, so that CS4 would be as bug free as possible, on the backs of the paying customer base for LR2.

Well, I had ordered CS4 extended the day it was announced. Today it was supposed to be available for download; well, it isn't ready.

Adobe stated on the phone this morning it would not be available until late October.

That tells me another update to LR2 (ACR already has posted an update) is in the near future and before CS4 is officially released.

Come on Adobe, you have to get up earlier than that to fool us.

The moral of the story...PS has higher priority than LR in terms of the customer base and ensuring it is as bug free as possible; that being the case, for LR3, wait 6 months for the announcement of CS5, then you can get both simultaneously without dealing with so many bugs (barring Adobe getting them both right the first time upon release).

As an aside, if I had a fairly loyal customer base and a product that pretty much is unsurpassed for that customer base, I could do whatever I want in terms of release, as long as I promise to fix later. That way, I get all the revenues ahead of time (at least in cash flow, not necessarily allowed in revenue recognition accounting terms due to likely returns or warranty costs). Sounds like a pretty good, dog-gone deal to me. It is almost like Adobe getting paid for both the produce and field testing. Their staff can work on the most critical bugs and those that don't matter so much that they knew were there upon release simply can get fixed way down the line, if ever. Don't tell me that you don't know that they fix other things besides what they tell you when they release patches and updates.

Additional thoughts on this are welcome...as always,

But they aren't charging your credit card until it is shipped, so there is no revenue ahead of time.

Perhaps I must clarify.

They released LR2 before CS4 as the rattrap and that already has been charged for.

I got my download notice at 11:15 PM last night so CS-4 is released. It is downloading as this is typed.

Ok, perhaps I jumped the gun and am not afraid to admit it; however, just because CS4 is now shipping doesn't mean they haven't already fixed LR2's adj brush problems for an LR 2.2 release since they probably have been busier with the release of CS4's suite.

I would expect another LR 2 update within the next month. My original estimate of the story holds.

Let's wait and see...

All I know, I have been a user of both for a long time.. I have a few issues with LR2.. But all in all, I am quite happy with it... Can't say that I have purchased any software that has been bug free from the get go..
