Lightroom 2.1 online - 10-22-2008, 07:28 PM

Finally online, I was hating on the adobe dng converter extra step in my workflow with 50D, I like to do it all in the import of lightroom.

I've been using the 2.1 beta for a while now, and it's been stable.

I fired up Lightroom this evening and it prompted me to upgrade to v2.1. The upgrade took less than 10 minutes and it runs very smoothly.

Mine crashes about once an hour while editing a new import. I have been paying attention to the memory usage and as it gets up close to a gig (lightroom.exe) that is when I start getting the upside down "out of memory" message then a few minutes later, it shuts down.

Normally this happens when I have been exporting back and forth between CS3 and LR2.1.. For me, (since LR beta 1) this has been an issue. I believe there is a memory management issue that has yet (well hopefully with this update) to be addressed. I have no issues when using it on my Mac, but I really don't edit much on my MBP..

I going to install it tonight and see...Hopefully, they made some significant updates since the 2.1 beta.

my experience so far is that the major issue with release 2.0 is that the local adjustment brush has some serious peformance issues. surfing the adobe forums tells me i'm not the only one of that opinion, and the problem isn't mac or pc specific (i'm on a mac.)

unfortunately, the 2.1 release candidate did nothing to alleviate the problem.

Would you mind reporting back after you have updated your LR to the official 2.1 update release? I agree that the candidate didn't do much, but I haven't uploaded the official and cannot until tonight on my Mac.

Anyone else that has uploaded that official 2.1 release and appears to have solved the adj brush problems, let me know please.

Thanks.

Oh, additionally, Adobe's README file still reads same as the candidate which states remaining issues include the local adj brush.

I too have noticed some performance issues with the brush, I suspect it will be much better in the next release as this is a 1.0 tool in the current version. I think we will be seeing a lot more of this tool in future versions.
