stuck on hand tool is CS3

Sometimes and now more often, when i select a tool, any tool, it just stays on the hand tool and i can't do any thing requiring a tool or brush. Why it that?

And also, sometimes the drop-down menu choices are highlighted in pink and somtimes in green. Why?

I am very new to PS and am very frusterated by all of this.

You get the hand tool when you press the spacebar no matter what tool you are on. Might check your keyboard. Flip it upside down and give it a good jiggle and use some air to blow the junk out. You would be surprised whats in your keyboard.

Its a month-old laptop. I reinstalled the software...problem fixed. weird.

I sometimes have the same problem. Don't know why it happens but a swift cold boot has always solved it.

Haha this just happened to me a few days ago. It went away after awhile being left alone. Then it happened again. I was mad and scouted the web for help. Most people said it was becasue of lack of memory but I know for a fact that is not the case. Finally I found the answer. It's the SPACEBAR! It got stuck. One simple tap on the spacebar solved the problem. Try it, spacebar is the shortcut for the hand tool. I know Spacebar does get stuck every now and then depends on how old your keyboard is. Hope this helps.

I have problems with my brush size disappearing. Still works but you can't see the outline of the brush. From what I understand, that is memory related...but maddening nonetheless.

Does anyone know where to get a list of shortcuts for CS3? It would have been great to know that all this time I could have hit spacebar for the hand tool...
