Newborn Jaundice Help - 11-15-2008, 03:13 PM

I've played with these images, and can't quite get the baby's skin to look more like moms. I offered B&W, but she also wants some color, and asked if I could get rid of the jaundiced look. Anyone have any pointers? Not sure where to start. Ideally, I would copy the background layer, make changes to it, them paint them back into the original with a clipping mask. I just don't know how to get the skin to look normal!

Create New Layer
Hue/Saturation - Desaturate to -25
Go To Curves - Blue Channel - Take out some yellow (Output: 138 - Input: 118)
Create Mask
Fill Mask with Black
Select Paint Brush At 50% Opacity
Paint over the Infant
Flatten Image
Sharpen
Save

Approx. Time: 2-3 minutes

WOW.....
My Image as a whole looks a little more "Red" then yours..... Must be my Color Space.
Oh well, I think you get the point.
BTW, there are a million ways to do this, this is just the way I choose to do it. So if some one else offers a way that is different, try them all and use which way suits your needs.....

GOOD LUCK!

Thanks! I have never really used curves, and the details you gave were great. I had a friend tell me I could have used Viveza, but I didn't think I needed to buy a program to handle this.

Thanks again!

Shan,

Select the baby with the lasso tool with a large feather. I only selected the head and torso. I did not select the legs or the left arm of the baby.
Go to Image> Adjustments> Selective Color
In the dialog box, select yellow from the drop down menu.
Then move the yellow slider to the left to take away only yellow. I took the slider down to -75%.
Here is my result.
