I was using PSP Photo XI because it came on my laptop, and was fairly cheap to upgrade.

I found that there was a lot of things it did okay, but many things it was missing in relationshop to PS.

I've used PSP since version 2. It does everything I need it to do and more.

I use it. I started with pspx and I've recently upgraded to pspx2 which I like better. I only wish I could find some tutorials for it, especially when it comes to working w/layers and learning the differences and when to use them and for what. Did that make sense?

A long time user of PSP - 11-22-2008, 01:53 AM

I have used PSP since it was shareware and find no reason to apologize for not using PS. Unfortunately when JASC sold to Corel a lot of the tutorials and help that had been previously available was discontineud.

I have yet to find anything that my fellow photographers can accomplish in PS that is not available in PSP. For many years it was my primary image processing software. I have switched to Nikon Capture NX and only use PSP now for cloning and perspective corrections.

I highly recommend PSP as a $59 replacement for PS.

For the PSP users, you might find this link to one of my PSP drawings interesting. http://www.flickr.com/photos/gwimage...7600772378210/ All of the manipulations in this folder were done with PSP.

You might check with Brad. I know at one time he used PSP exclusively.

Yup, Scott. Still do.

I still run the last JASC version.. I haven't liked the Corel versions at all. But yes, PSP does everything I need it to do.

Now.. "need it to do" in my case does not include some things that Photoshop can do out of the box - liquify, HDR, and some history brush functions notably... but I don't really miss them.

I was asking because I have been using it since high school (I think version 3) and it's the only thing I ever knew how to use. Everything that I know how to do on it have always been self-taught. I've never found a tutorial for it, but luckily I've always had a lot of time on my hands to sit and fiddle with it. I recently got X2 with my laptop and it's still pretty much the same as 9, but with a few new doodads that I dont really need, nor use. The only version of PS that I've ever used was the CS2 that came with my wacom. There are a few filters that I like with PS, but I've never really used it much to see what all it can do. I was asking about it in this thread though, because I thought I was the only person that uses it.

And about the "painshop"...my bad...late night typing and not paying attention.

I will admit that the built in information on PSP made it easier to learn and use than PS

there's just a lot more things like podcasts for PS, and there's tons of actions for PS. I never did figure out a way to do actions or something similar in PSP. It does have it's own skin smoothing process though and that's a big plus IMO.

I use PSP 11, and it is all I need. I don't really do that much to my images in post processing.

I have a copy of PSP8 (still JASC) at work. That was the last version available before I switched to Mac so I moved my personal license to my work computer. It sure comes in handy for the few times a quarter where I need to do some post processing at work and not given the time to bring the work home where I can work on the Mac.

Its called "scripting" in PSP.. I have several that I use on a regular basis.. most of them I wrote myself, but there are a few people out there who have others.
