I had CS2 installed for a while without any problems on Vista Ultimate.

Have you gone through and turned off all the stupid Vista protection/security crap?

It shouldn't be a Vista problem.
I have installed every PS version: CS, CS2, CS3, & CS4 on Vista machines and things went smooth as glass on every install. In fact PS runs faster on Vista machines.
Are you trying to install a full or upgrade version?

OMG. How can you stand it with all that crap turned on?? You are a far more patient person than I, clearly.

Here is a website that explains how to turn off/adjust some of the more annoying 'features' of vista - http://lifehacker.com/5016951/
