More face retouching practice - 12-23-2008, 09:36 PM

Just playing around again with processing. The first shot is straight out of the camera, the second is the processing that I did originally, and the last is a new edit that I just finished. What do you think? Is her skin a little yellow in the last one? I am working on my laptop and I've been looking at her to long to be sure.

Dan, they are a bit orange on my monitor.
I ran it through my action just to see how it did.
It's hard to get a good idea from a relatively low res. TPF post.

Yeah, it's a little warm for my taste, but not bad.

Use the desaturate tool to brighten her teeth. Also I read a cool little tip. Add an adjustment layer and boost the contrast really high. That's where the blemishes really jump out. Then use the band aid tool (or your prefered method) to clean up...then dump that adjustment layer and the result will look really nice.

Thanks Tom & Shane, Good suggestions. For whitening teeth & the whites of the eyes I have been selecting them and using levels adjustment, I'll try the desaturate method.

Sure. I use levels sometimes for whitening...but more times than not it just blows them out. The desaturation seems to leave some tonality but lessens discoloration.

That's could be your mask hitting some of the gumline - also I don't think they're talking about completely desaturating, but just enough to hide discoloration.

Yeah, in some cases it can. I guess it depends on if you're dealing with discoloration or dark spots.

For teeth and eyes I make a selection, make a new layer from the selection, open a hue and saturation dialog, select red then desaturate and lighten, select yellow then desaturate and lighten, adjust the opacity of the layer then merge down. It's pretty quick using shortcuts. Make a selection, cntrl j, cntrl u, cntrl 1 and adjust, cntrl 2 and adjust, adjust layer opacity, cntrl e and you are done.
