Too Much Smoothing? - 01-03-2009, 01:28 AM

Was working on my model/portrait workflow building some actions that I typically do to each photograph but not sure on the skin smoothing, looks maybe a tad too much but not sure so figured I would get some input.

What I often do is apply the smoothing at different rates for the face than I do the rest of the body. You'll find that using a smoothing filter for the body skin will completely plasticize it, where that same level on face looks perfect. Use the loop tool to select the area you want processed, then invert the selection (or make a new one) and re-run the tool at lower opacity for the other portion.

I like it myself, but you might decrease the opacity just a little to reduce to shadows.

Scott - I will give that a try tonight, I think that was my problem is not seperating the face from the rest of the processing.

Thanks Chris for your input as well.

I would not use this image to build some actions.
It has been my experience; If SOOC is out of focus, PP will never look right.
You missed the focus on this image by about 6-8 inches so everything will be off.
