CS4 New features - 01-08-2009, 01:49 PM

I am going through CS4 tutorials and would like to share the new features/shortcuts I am finding.

Please post if you find any useful new features.

I would like to start with a simple shortcut, which I think I am going to use a lot.

Alt + Righclick[PC] / Ctrl + Opt[Mac] and drag changes the brush size on PC. While dragging your can see the preview of brush size. So visually you can determine what size brush you need. Default preview(overlay) brush color is Red, but this can be changed in 'Preferences > Cursor > Brush preview'.

If you add Shift[PC] / Cmd[MAc] to the above key combination, you can change brush hardness.

Star Wars crawl-style text in Photoshop
The video is cheesy, but I love that CS4 can manipulate text in 3D. This would be so awesome for me when creating my posters. It was a PITA trying to create the same text effect with just the regular Transform Tools.

I've discovered two things that can really help while editing...

- The clone stamp tool now shows a 'live' preview before you clone. It is always 100% opacity, but still is very helpful to see what you'll get before you click.

- The patch tool seems to do a little better job dealing with high contrast edges. It will still smear some, but I've noticed improvement which helps me.

- ACR 5.x is great! Love the camera profiles.
