I did this in photoshop a few years back. The idea is to put a mask on the image with a gradient bar, and then use that mask to apply a focus blur. Really cool results.

These were from the reunion tower in Dallas.

This is fun to do in Photoshop but I've never seen a site that does it for you. Cool!

This is one I did of Victoria Harbor, but looks better on black Oh, and I did it with a photoshop gradient blur.

3/4 cup brown sugar
1 tsp. vanilla extract
2 large eggs
2-3/4 cup flour mix

So, is it the tilt-shift giving the miniature effect or is there some other post processing aiding to that? Nice work all around....

It can be done either way, using just a tilt-shift lens or using just photoshop. The effect comes from tricking the eye by giving a scene at infinite focus a falsely shallow depth of field. At least that's how I understand it.

Yep, it's all in the focus, and what we have become accustomed to.

Our eyes focus and depth of field work a lot like our camera lenses. It's not as consciously noticeable because of our field of view and the way we process the image, but it's there.

Pay attention to your peripheral vision and focus on something close, like the end of a pen, or a business card. Bring it closer to you while you can still see it very sharp and notice the wall behind it, or your computer monitor. You're getting really nice bokeh ;-) But because we only process a certain segment of our entire field of view, you're not paying attention to it.

How many years have you spent looking at things close up and having a very limited depth of field? How old are you? We know what to expect an image to look like when it is very close to us, but it's not fully conscious. So if you take an image that is not close, and give it a shallow depth of field, it FEELS like it's something small.

One I did a few weeks back - took this from a private plane about 2000 feet up and it was perfect for t-shifting:
