PS CS3 installed can't save as. Please help!!! - 01-26-2009, 09:54 AM

I just installed and reinstalled Photoshop CS3 because I can't get it to save as or open. I'm on a MacBook Pro I have 43.5 GB of space on my hard drive. Anytime I try to use either of these features, it just spins and spins I do a force-quit and re-open and the same thing happens. I can save without any problems and I can select a file in my finder and open with PS CS3, but can not use either open or save as from the file menu in PS. Oh yeah, I've also tried using command +O and command +shift+s and those don't work either. Any ideas????

Thanks!

Check the preferences panel for Photoshop and make sure the file handling options are set right and that you have a valid scratch disk. Also right after the install, make sure to update it using the "Adobe Updater" application. There may be some patch needed. BTW, which version of OS X are you using? 10.?

Yes 10.5.6
Here is a screen shot of my file handling preferences

and Performance

I wasn't aware of the Adobe updater. I'm so dumb about these things -so sorry- is abobe updater different from choosing software update? If so, how do I get to it?

Thank you so much srwatters!

As soon as you start up photoshop, go to the help->updates. That will start the updater and it is different from the apple menu->Software update. You can also navigate to Applications->Utilities->Adobe Utilities->Adobe Updater to find the updater application on it's own.

Give that a try.

So, I've updated everything I can see to update and I'm still having the same problems. I don't know what to f'ing do. For now, I'm patching the problem by going through Light Room, but it's still super annoying.

Ok, I haven't touched a MAC in a long time but maybe my questions will help still. It seems to me as though you have a corruption within Photoshop that is preventing its normal function. File corruption is still possible on MAC.

What was the last thing you did before you encountered this problem with PS3? Any new Plug-Ins or actions installed?

When you did the uninstall, did you perform a complete clean un-install? When a program is removed, some of the components can still be left installed.
