Lightroom vs Bridge?? - 02-01-2009, 06:24 AM

I just started using Lightroom (original not 2.0) after using Bridge for quite a while. I processed a lot of files in Lightroom, and now I'm doing finishing touches in CS2. I save the photo as a tif, after working with RAW file in Lightroom.

Now when I finish in CS2, I try to save as a jpeg for my website, and I cannot do it. Jpeg is not an option in my drop down menu.

Why does this happen? Am I doing something in Lightroom that is preventing me from saving a jpeg in CS2?

Any feedback greatly appreciated. This is so baffling!!

Is the image 16 bits or does it have layers? It most likely is 16 bits coming from LR. You need to flatten and convert to 8 bits. You quite likely also need to convert it to sRGB color space (Edit->Convert to Profile, I think?) _before_ you convert from 16 to 8 bits.

I am wondering if you use 'save for web' it would make the conversion for you on export? Although personally I like to convert down from 16bit before export to know what I'm getting.

Thanks to both of you for your suggestions. I haven't gotten a chance to check this out but I have been saving as 16-bit, so I will re-save as 8=bit and see if that works. Will let you know.

I never use save for web myself, partially because it used to not convert the profile. That may have changed in CS3 or CS4, but I'm pretty sure CS2 wouldn't do the profile conversion.

Well, that was the problem - 8 bit vs 16 bit. I re-exported my files again as 8-bit files and I can now save as a jpeg.

Many thanks again for your input!!

Also, personally I never "save for web". I just resize my final file for web if/when I need it.

Happy Monday to all!
