Upsizing in LR2 (and do I need to do it?) - 02-05-2009, 12:54 PM

I'm using LR2, and I also have PS Elements 5. I'm looking for the best way to enlarge a shot. I have a 6 mp shot from my K100D (3008x2008). I've been asked by a customer for a jpeg "good enough for a 8.5x11 full bleed" for the cover of a magazine.

First question - do I need to upsize this file? I figure so, given that 300ppi and 8.5x11 gives me a 3300x2550 file. I could go with 240ppi and that would equate to 2640x2040 (yeah, I know the aspect ratio is off a little, but you get the point).

Second question - how do I do this in LR2? I've exported to 100% quality jpeg and first set it to 300 ppi. Then I tried again and set it to 240 ppi, and both files seem identical (same size and resolution). Then I tried manually setting the output size to 8.5" x 11" at 300ppi, but that actually yielded a smaller file.

Any comments/suggestions on either of the questions, or my assumptions?

Thanks!

I think you need to ask the client for a better definition of what they want/need.

That's true, Wayne, and I'll do that.

Do you know if I can actually enlarge in LR2, or should I do it with PSE or a stand alone product?
