Don't give up on that hard drive. There are places out there that can work miracles with recovering data from dead hard drives. I'm sure some folks on here can recommend some.

I'm not sure I understand your ratio request. I use 2 x 3, 3 x 2 (same as 4 x 6 and 6 x 4), 5 x 7, 7 x 5, 8 x 10 and 10 x 8. I don't usually need anything but those.

Patti

Have them return the old drive when they repair the computer.

If you hubby can build one he should be able to manage recovery with a little reading. Nothing ventured, nothing gained.

An individual can install the drive in an existing machine and can sometimes get a lot of info from the drive if it will spin up. You will need a 2.5" to 3.5" drive adapter to cable the drive into a desktop.

Recovery shops pull the platters and work from there in a clean room and are far more likely to recover some data. But in your case you have already given up on that idea. Tell hubby to go for it.

Or you may be able to recover your photos at a later date.

You can ask, but once you turn in your hard drive, they often ship it off to Never-never Land.

do you remember if you could hear the hard drive spinning, or did it sound like a marble in a coffee can. Hopefully the shop hasn't sent the Hard drive back. If you can get it back you should be able to get and estimate on data recovery.
