Annoying watermarks You say!? Here's mine. I would normally stick in quietly in the corner but a solid black would just be too easy to steal.
I am trying to come up with a less annoying one....maybe!

Greg, Private,

That is pretty much what I assumed one could do with the watermark. I know it is not going to stop the publication on the web. I am just trying to make sure a print made would look very bad.

Agreed. The only way to stop theft is never to put it on the internet. The other way is to rethink our business strategy and charge differently than per print.

For event photography like sports it's impossible as no one pays a per hour fee so the only way to get your money back is via print orders/digital downloads. But how do you show proofs to those masses without putting the images on the internet? It's a catch 22, doomed if you do, doomed if you don't.

Making a living from professional photography is going to be harder and harder.

You pros can take comfort in the fact that most people done have the skill or software to remove the watermarks.

I use to ride motorcycles on a race track in Angleton along with many other riders and we are members of a local forum. When a pro would take pics and post them on smugmug for purchase with a watermark some people would PrtScn cut the photo out and then use it as their Avatar with the watermark still there, no shame at all. For many that was as good a photo as they wanted because they were not about to pay $5 per pic.
