need some help with the sky

This is a discussion on need some help with the sky within the Post Processing Central forums, part of the Photography Information category; Hey I want to get some of the yucky colors out of the bottom part of the sky any suggestions ...

Hey I want to get some of the yucky colors out of the bottom part of the sky any suggestions ??

It looks like a lot of smog (maybe from the exhaust) down the track.
Here is what I was able to do with masking and using a combination of contrast and saturation.

Create a cutout of everything except the sky. Add a layer below that and create a gradient for the sky using colors of you choice. Go back to you cut out and use an erase tool set very weak to tune up. You may have to do a little airbrush to add some also.

Would a good quality uv filter help with shots like these?

It was shot with a 10.5 so no filters can be used lol good idea tho

Using photoshop CS4, I used bridge to open your jpeg file in camera raw. I then used their new gradient filter and reduced the exposure to a -25 in the lower part of the sky.

In photoshop: If you run your cursor across the bottom sky and look at the CMYK "info" palette you'll notice an abundance of yellow; 10,15,20% in places. So, select the sky, feather your selection 1or 2 pixels so you don't get a hard edge, then go to "selective color" under image/adjustments. Working within the colors white, yellow and neutral you should be able to decrease the yellow by moving the slider. Experiment, check/uncheck the preview, eyeball it and look at the info palette. It will show you the before and after percentages. Good luck.
