Photoshop CS4 Problem - 02-27-2009, 09:08 AM

I have been running CS4 since December 2008 Without any problem. Last night, I was working on a photo and left for about 30 minutes to eat. When I came back, photoshop was locked up. I turned the program off, re-booted my system and now it will not run at all. It usually boots up in less than 30 seconds. Now, it takes about 3 minutes for the first box to appear with all the names on it and then hangs up. I waited for 20 minutes but it never advanced any further.
I tried to call Adobe but it was after hours for tech support. I'll call again this morning. Any body else ever had anything like this happen.

Do other programs open in the same manner? When you re-booted your system was it slow to respond?

Before you blame the software I would run a diagnostics of your system to determine if you have a hardware failure somewhere, such as memory for example.

All my other programs run fine. I ran a complete diagnostic check on my system and hard drive which showed no problems. I still have CS2 on my system and it runs fine.

I have had issues running two different versions of Creative Suite on my machine; I don't know why you would have a problem if CS4 was working fine previously, though.

I contacted Adobe support and they concluded that my security software might have tried to install some automatic updates while CS4 was running. They had been go to the system configuration utility, go to the service tab, place a checkmark in the box called "Hide all microsoft services. Then I disabled all of the checkmarks. When you close this, your system reboots to make the changes. I was then able to open and run CS4. Then they had me go back into the system configuration utility and place check marks in five items at a time and then reboot and check CS4. Finally, when I placed a check mark back into by security software, CS4 would not run. I called the security software Tech people and they had me remove the current copy of their software and download a new version.
With that install, everything is working.
