Apeture vs Light Room - 03-09-2009, 08:11 PM

Ok, forgive me if this has been covered already...

Im a PC user, well specifically right now I'm running XP and Linux. I've been using Light Room for about 3 months and just love it!

I have a Macbook on the way, and am looking trying to decide between using Aperture or Light Room on it. Alright MAC users who uses what?

as simply as I can give my base input...

I'm an IT guy with 15+ years exp, mostly Windows. I used Lightroom and some photoshop.
As of November I'm a mac addict, but still a Windows IT guy for work.

now on my macbook...
I primarily use Lightroom, my 2nd most used app is Capture NX2, 3rd most used app is CS4.

I have Aperture, but haven't dove into it much.

You can't beat Lightroom's workflow.

I'm slow building a collection of plugins, filters, etc etc.
My backup workstation is still a Windows XP Pro (dual proc, single-core, Xeon) system.

-Benjamin
PS. omg, I should have bought a macbook when they first launched mac with intel procs. I only wish the battery lasted longer and the notebook sleep issue would be resolved.

I've used both since they were in Betas and I've gone back and forth since then. I am currently using Lightroom at home and Aperture at the office. Both on macs. I'm liking Lightroom better. But for the most part, it comes down to personal preference right now since they can pretty much do the same thing, it just takes different steps to get there. I say download the trial of Aperture and give it a whirl. You don't have anything to lose but time. If you don't like it, continue to use Lightroom.

Lightroom for speed.
Aperture for detail.

Lightroom without a doubt IMHO.

I use it on both PC and Mac.

I have Aperture. Haven't tried Lightroom. I can now do everything I want in one program. I hope to never use Photoshop again!

Lightroom for compatibility.
Photoshop, RAW, Bridge & Lightroom - all Adobe

Lightroom has a much larger user base and with it comes lots of third party resources.

But like was said, download the trials and test fly them both.

I know that this topic has been done and redone but I'm glad it has resurfaced. When we were in Hawaii I almost bought Aperture 2 but thought I'd wait and ask for some input here. I recently purchased a 17 in Mac book pro and have lightroom but liked that aperture lets you tether which for events could be very handy.

I say lightroom. now that you can dodge and burn and clarity brush and saturation brush, etc. Oh it's so nice. I open photoshop once every 4000 exposures or so.
