Photo editing help - 03-09-2009, 11:34 PM

Hello: My name is Carl. I am a photo addict, and computer stupid!

With all the expertise here, I am sure someone can help me.

I need a software program that will help me do the following basic procedures:

Download my images.

View large enough to cull the keepers, edit slightly...They don't often need much; cropping, color balance/enhancement, dark/light, red eye, etc.

Then, gather the edited images in one place, where I can transfer them to a CD for backup/off site storage.

I have tried Nikon Picture Project, which is now "not supported" by the big N, Nikon Transfer+the other program you must have for it to work, and my wife bought me Photoshop Elements, which I promised I would NEVER, ever use again.

As you can see, I need something very basic and easy. Do they have a Photoediting for Dummies?

Can anyone recommend a program? Free, if possible, or inexpen$ive.
Thanks; C.

I'd Second that.

I love ADOBE products, but if you are new to PC software and want an easy to use tool to help with the basics (not cheese like MS paint), check it out... it is free!!!

Another good image viewer which can do basic editing and is very easy to use is FastStone. You can download it free here, http://www.faststone.org/FSViewerDetail.htm

If you choose lightroom after trying the demo, borders has a discount available for adobe products, for up to 40% off their price. You'll need to sign up for for their Border Perks.

https://www.bordersrewardsperks.com/...2d19505a3e525f

If I remember correctly, after the discount it was 240 vs 300.

Adobe products are arguably the industry standard, but If you want a robust photo editor only (not organizer) and you still want free, try the GIMP. Some people hate it because of its quirkiness, but it is quite powerful. If you're going through a learning curve anyway you probably won't realize the differences. There are a lot of tutorials available, many can be found by searching YouTube. It's also available as a portable app. so you can carry it around on a flash drive.
