Hey folks -

I'm having a strange problem I'm trying to figure out. Basically, here's what I am briefly trying to accomplish... 1) oval selection of an image 2) perform "select, modify, feather 250" 3) Ctrl-J to copy feathered selected area to a new layer 4) delete or modify copied layer 5) Use history brush to bring back original.

The funny thing is that when I do the above steps on a JPG photo, it work's 100% the way I want. However, in the process of trying to create a poster I saved a multiple layer file as *.PSD file. When I open this PSD file, I cannot do the above action without getting the illegal function circle. The history brush just worn' work.

I've done this before, but for some reason I'm just not recognizing why I can't use the history brush. (the layer was not moved, or anything after I opened it) in fact I can delete or modify other layers within this PSD and the history brush works okay, but just not on the layer I want it to. (This layer was imported JPG photo).

If this makes any sense, and you might have any ideas, please let me know.

Thanks for your time.
Randy

Some additional info. I tried the same thing with my laptop (CS3) and I get an error message "Could not use the history brush because the history state does not contain a corresponding layer" ... here's a screen capture. I must be doing something wrong, but can't get a handle on what is the source of the problem. I'm not finished doing the extraction of the images ... still a work in progress ...
