Need Lightroom Help! - 04-05-2009, 02:45 PM

I just made the switch from a Dell to an iMac (so pretty!) and am having a problem in Lightroom. I have no doubt I'm being an idiot, but LR is automatically making adjustments to my shots. I have no develop settings selected to apply on import and the auto tone adjustments box is not selected in my preferences. I've tried with both the original settings and some specific to my camera (Canon 50D) but it keeps happening. The luminance is bumped up, the blacks and recovery are adjusted and there's even a vignette being applied -- and it's driving me crazy. The shots briefly look good and then when finished "developing," they change. This was not happening on my Dell. Like I said, I'm sure it's something obvious and easy, but if anyone can help me, I'd really appreciate it.

are you looking at new files or are they previously imported on the dell?
is there a camera profile being used. one of the last menus at the bottom of the develop module. some calibration profile?
Did you sync a few images then maybe sync all your images?

They're new files and it's how they came in. I've tried both the default development settings and the canon 50D setting and have messed with the calibration settings. It's just weird - maybe the Mac reads RAW files differently? My understanding is that the first view I get (that looks more SOOC to me) is a quick preview of a JPEG version (even though I shoot only in RAW)? I guess I just need to customize some default settings - I was hoping there was some obvious thing I was missing so I wouldn't have to.

you could bring the raw file into photoshop ands see what the deafault raw looks like. then compare that to the lightroom version, this will just verify our camera settings are good.

Good idea - I will as soon as I get the new version from Adobe (very glad they're letting me basically transfer my license from a Windows version to a Mac version). Thanks!

Unfortunately, it's Lightroom's RAW converter making the changes, and one of the reasons that I've started shooing RAW+JPEG.
