I know this image is doomed but is there any help for it? I accidently dialed the shutter speed and of course, it was the best one.

Did you shoot RAW? Raw on the 5D allows for quite a bit of latitude in the highlights that can be used to save over exposed areas using the right software.

I ALWAYS shoot raw for this very reason (among others).

I use PSPXI.

I always shoot raw. Of course, I have already adjusted to the full two stops and tried what little I know to do in PSPXI, burn, add noise, brightness, level. There was another image pretty good, just the little girl said that was it and she was not going to pose or smile anymore after the one. Not a hugh big deal, just a daycare. :(

Joyce,

I have had some success when I have overexposed an image to convert it to B&W using Channel Mixer. I played a little with yours but the file is so small I can't really see how it is working.

I used the following settings:
Output Channel: Red
Source Channels: Red 25, Green 25, Blue 50
with Monochrome box checked

Size: 82.0 KB

Can you email the RAW file over for processing?

I did resize it down to small to post. I tried, it looks better, but the boys cheeks are soooo blown out that I do not think there is much hope.

I do not think you can email raw files. I tried once when I first started and it was fifteen minutes later and it still would not finish sending.

Well, I am doing it wrong again. I use photobucket and I guess I copied the wrong one. I try again.

If you are making a print it will be fine. The highlights are not that far gone.

It does depend on who your ISP is and what kind of connection you have to the internet. Most ISPs won't usually won't allow files over 10MB no matter what kind of file it is.

I selected the boys face and worked with levels to adjust it some. I just tried it with color and it did not work as well. I did already submit the daycare order forms and excluded it. I just thought this pose and the girls face were too cute for mom not to see. I doubt that she will ever see it since I have no contact with the parents. I probably would have included the black and white with a note had I not already sent them in.

It is good to know when I do make a mistake that I can use the mixer. I only have self taught skills on the PSP so I appreciate learning something new.

Thanks for the help.
Joyce

This is the best I could do with the image size. I made numerous adjustments using Nik Software Viveza inside PS. Well worth the small investment!!!

Thanks, that does look better than I could do. I do not like post processing. I did figure what I was doing, I was turning the shutter speed dial instead of turning the dial to pick focusing point. Too big of a hurry when you have a lot of children. Hopefully I learned another lesson, if my focusing point is not moving, I am adjusting something that does not need to be adjusted.

Thanks for all the help.
Joyce

By the way, I do not know how to retrieve an image file that has been posted. Can you tell me how?
Thanks again,
Joyce

If I am following you, just right click picture; select save image as. You still have the original file on your computer, as the forum doesn't take the original it just duplicates it.

I believe you can send up to 20mb files using gmail to gmail.

Right-click on the image and 'Save as' or 'Save picture as..' will save your file in most cases.
