Check that your Adobe Camera Raw is up to date.

wouldn't like you double click something and it thows a temper tantrum and says "no i won't open it!"?

really though, what error are you getting and what os are you on?

i had a problem come up that made NO sense whatso ever, but i would get an error message (don't remember now, but it was realllly short) whenever i'd try to open any files really. the fix was to add a new microsoft xps document writer and set it as the default printer. then no more problems opening raw's or psd's). oh btw, i'm on vista 64bit.

The ACR update for CS3 is totally different than the one of CS4. CS3 supports only ver. 4 and CS4 supports vers. 5.

Here is where you get 5.3:

If using adobe bridge, are your file associations set correctly ? Check your preferences, file type associations to make sure that you select file to open with Photoshop. Just a wild thought.

I had this problem when I got my 40D over my 20D....seems the RAW files aren't backwards compatible. Thought it was my CF card at first. But then the RAW files were visible in Picasa, just not in PS. I called Canon support and that's where the tech explained that it's the PS that needed to be updated for RAW files for the 40D.
