Just a quick question, is there a reason why the 5D with the 24-105 cost $550 more than B&H and Adorama regular price? One, two hundred dollars more I understand but $550 more.

I like your new commercial, the online vs local (mac and pc parady).

This is really a question for Precision camera, since this is their section. I can understand that they buy from the manufacturer at a set price then sell it at a markup. But costing 20% more than other B&M store/competitors. I try to buy local because I like to help the local economy(farmers, businesses, etc).

Hi,
B&H and Adorama are matching another NY store that is selling the 5d w/24-105 below cost.
I called Canon to find out what the deal is, and they said there is a price war in NY right now.
Samy's Camera in LA is at $2,999. We can match Samy's but not the other two.
We are the same as Samy's and $250 higher than the NY guys.
As always, please contact me for a competitive price.

Thanks gregg for the reply. I have to factor in the taxes to so it is around $500 higher. Thanks, I will keep this in mind in deciding.

Not if you have a state sales tax permit and use the camera and lens in the production of the items you sell and collect tax on. If that's the case, the camera is considered a "manufacturing" item and, with the proper documentation, should be available "tax free" to you.

Just to be clear, even if you buy it "out of state", you still owe the taxes in Texas.

This is true... Wonder what the percentage is of people actually following that law is? Curious.

I have never know that I can get a better price by contacting you.

I just thought it's kinda pity to those people who doesn't know that they can actually get a better price.

On more than one occasion I have called or emailed Precision and did some comparison shopping between them and online sales. In some cases they matched, in some cases they split the difference and sometimes there was no room to negotiate. But it was always done without any trouble.

Taxes are not really optional. That is part of the price we pay for not having and income tax. You can't expect a retailer to get to an ultra-skinny margin and then absorb the taxes too. That would be a loss on the sale and do them no good. It is often the price you pay for shopping locally. (Although, I wish I were more local to them sometimes.)
