Printing Panoramic Canvas. Please help! - 08-13-2009, 10:46 AM

Back in March I took some family photos for a co-worker. She now wants a "widescreen" version of one of the photos. She wants it to be around 20x50, but I don't think my puny xt produces a high enough resolution to be able to do that.

Will somebody please help me crop this photo somewhere in that ballpark so that the picture isn't distorted?
Also, any recommendations of where to print this canvas?

Here's the edited one I showed them. I also attached the original

This picture lends it self to a 20x44 crop. If crop to 20x50, you have six inches of grass and trees on the right end. At 150 dpi and jpeg, the doc is 64.4M. I ran it through genuine fractals 6.0 to uprez. Working from the original file would be optimal for raising the resolution. You did shoot this in raw, didn't you?

You're original jpeg might be successfully uprezzed, but it's probably a stretch.

other problem with mounting this on canvas, if they want the image wrapped around the side, is the girl on the left will also be wrapped around the side. You will have to get out your PS skills if you (or your client) doesn't want that to happen.

great capture though!

Thanks for the help guys!

Do you have any suggestions for a place that prints on canvas?

do you have access to professional labs?

we use simply canvas (and they do pretty well with their color mgmt, not perfect though) and they will do any size. if you are able to print with them, they have a nifty calculator that will tell you how much a custom size costs. otherwise, you are stuck with places like mpix and i'm not sure if they do custom sizes...there are a million others out there. a local print lab will also do them, but are typically more expensive than the online outfits. the lab we use for all other printing, you have to pay for a gilcee (a size bigger than what you want the canvas print to be) and then pay to have it stretched on a frame.

oh, and if you print with simply, they have some awesome first time customer discounts!!
