Refurbished Epson 3800 Printers - 10-05-2009, 07:02 PM

Has anyone tried a refurbished Epson 3800 printer? I am considering upgrading from my Epson 1800 and going with the refurbished 3800. I am not sure waiting on the 3880 would be cost effective due to the limited photos I print.

I would appreciate feedback.

I purchased one about a year ago. It had problems (can't remember exactly what, but it had to do with paper feeding) and Epson promptly sent me a replacement and paid to have the first one returned to them. Only thing that I was not happy about was the printer cartridges included with it. All were new, but very near to their use by date. That said, I am still using them without any problems.

I've followed a lot of Epson threads. Never read that anyone was displeased. The only negative I've read about Epson was a person who had to return a new 3800 after just days out of the box. He got a refurbished unit in it's place. That unit worked fine. He was just a bit unhappy to trade new for refurbished.

With all the rebates & free shipping, is a refurb that much cheaper than new? Until last week, 4880s were selling for $900 new delivered to your door. How much is a refurb. 3800?

Good luck.

I thought about buying a new 3800 but didn't want to outlay the additional cost up front and wait the rebate. The refurbished is $749.00 with free shipping and Epson 12 month warranty. Didn't seem like a bad buy.

That price made the $900 4880 very attractive.

The 4880 still has a $500 rebate and is tempting but I would like to live a few more years, if I spent that much my better half might take me out.
