On-Site Printer - 10-21-2009, 01:08 AM

Hey Guys,

I have been approached to take photos for 35-year class reunion. Looking at doing the printing on-site.
I am looking at doing 8 x 10's and 5 x7's, probably a hundred each.
The problem I am having is I am not sure how often I will be doing events like this. Therefore, I am trying to figure out which printer I can get away with if I never do another event.
Thanks in advance

You should be able to rent something for a one time event.

I'm not familiar with Houston. You might just post a thread on here and see if a TPF member can help you out. Want to Rent: Event Printer be sure to give the date of the event.

I just picked up a Canon Pro 9000 MkII. You can find them for relatively cheap now, un-opened, brand new. People are dumping them after getting the rebates.
I hope to do event printing. Those things sell like hotcakes.
You should get one. Surely you'll use it again?

As far as renting one, I don't know anyone who does that. I know Light Tec rents camera gear. Houston Photo Imaging used to rent photo gear. Dunno about printing gear...

Nah, I'm not real familiar with printers. I hear Epson makes some of the best. I'm really liking my Pro 9000 though.

The Kodak doesn't look bad. You can use a roll of paper if you want. The largest size though is 8x12, which isn't too bad either.
HERE'S a spec sheet if anyone was wondering.

How much do those Kodaks cost?
You also might want to look into how much a new print head will cost, and how much the ink costs, as well as the photo paper.

Doh! That makes the link I posted irrelevant

S-Man added 3 Minutes and 5 Seconds later...Double Post Merged Below

Ah...LINK

From the product description it sounds like it's for business, so it might be a good investment. Again, you'd want to check into the cost of use and maintainence.

The Kodak 8800 is a thermal dye-sublimation printer, giving you photo quality prints in a short period of time. An 8X10 in 39 seconds is pretty fast. This is a good buy on this printer. It was designed for just the type of work you were wanting it for.

Just read this thread.

Eric, did you end up getting the Kodak 8800? or another printer?

I just picked up a gig for late April where I will be printing out on site 30-40 8x10s (maybe more). (There will be other photos taken/offered but they will be for online orders).
The 8x10s will be signed by celebrities who are posing with the subjects/clients.

Looking to get a good printer to hook up to a laptop to do this workm and was wondering about the 8800.
