I agree on Atlex/ITSupplies (same company, but two websites for some reason). Best prices on ink, and good prices on paper too if they have what you want. For specialty papers (or sizes), try Shades of Paper.

OK. The 4880 is heavy, but is it rugged? My 3800 reminds me of an Audi. Lots of style, good performance, but it is flimsy, delicate, and easily broken. Front latch broke, now held together with velcro. Now the LCD panel went out.

Anyone know an Epson printer shop in Houston? Recommended?
Thanks.

The 4880 seems pretty robust. Don't know of any epson shops in Houston. I used to service 'em in College Station, but that was MX-80's back in '85. Things have changed a wee bit since then...

The 4880 is Epson's smallest pro-grade large-format printer, while the 3880 is their largest consumer-grade printer. So there's going to be some differences in build quality and durability (not to mention size and weight), as should be expected given the price difference.

Sorry to hear you're having problems. By all accounts the 3880 produces great prints if you don't need roll support. I'd check with Epson on authorized service centers, if there's anyone local who can work on them, Epson should know (since they would probably sub-contract to them for local warranty service calls).

Yes, the 3800 (I don't have the 3880) makes very good prints. I use Red River paper, and with their profiles for the 3800, I have no problem with print quality. The printer itself, though, just generally feels cheaply made--paper holder, output tray both feel like if you stacked more than two sheets, they'd break off. Indeed, both have disassembled at one time or another. If I get in a hurry with this box, something is liable to come apart. I'm not a pro shop, but I'm pretty sure my next photo printer will be one made to hold up.

You should of seen the look on my wifes face when she walked into my office shortly after getting home from work 2 weeks ago. I told her I was getting a larger printer (I had a 4800)...I guess she was thinking slightly larger. I don't care what she says, I think the Epson 7900 fits nicely in my office :)

BTW, enjoy the 4880! If it is anything like the 4800 you will love it!
