After much thought and several conversations I am considering the Epson 1400 as a limited quantity printing printer to print enlarged bird photos in house.

I use the Epson 1400. Have been very satisfied with the color quality of my prints up to 13X19, For B&W I use QTRip to avoid color casts that I get with a straight print the 1400.

You might want to compare to Epson 1800 ...
Epson Stylus Photo 1400 and R1800 Printer Comparison - Epson America, Inc.

I have 2200 which is like the 1800.
Its good but all Epson's like to be used often and ink is pricey.
Ultra Chrome 8 color and darker denser optional black rocks.
