Canon iP4700 PIXMA - 04-13-2010, 06:10 PM

Just ordered a Canon iP4700 Pixma printer from B&H. It's only $50.00 & free shipping! I was about to buy ink for my really old HP 940c printer, and just decided to buy a whole new printer instead. It's about the same price as the HP ink.

I know it's not as cool as their 9000 series, but it's freakin' cheap!

Wow - I was looking at that unit last week at B&H and they had them for $70, which was still one of the best prices I could find. Did alot of review searches and was gonna snag 2 of them for a few small onsite event print jobs I had landed (but got canceled this weekend )

It seems to have the best ratings reviews of all the home/small Canon printer lines. Some stuff from my notes from the hundred or so reviews and dozen or so sites I checked:

Great Photo quality
"Best Home Photo Printer Available" (Aug 2009)
Good Ink Use compared to similar models
Rates 9.7 out of 10 at TestFreaks
Rates 8 out of 10 at Wired
Uses the same ink packs as the ip3600 (was considering buying that as a backup/spare - since it was on sale for $50 on Amazon)

The ink is fairly typical in size and price (get the 4 pack of the CLIs for about $35-40 and the PGI black for about $12-15)

Even with the event series being lost, I might as well get a pair to be ready next time.

I usually do much more research before buying stuff, but for $50.00 you can't go wrong. I was going to stop by Best Buy on the way home and pick one up, but most of the printers they have are multifunction, and I already have a nice scanner.
