This isn't going to be anything extravagant, so I'm not looking for something over the top, but I need to be able to go from camera to printer in a few minutes.

The barn where we board our horse is also a rescue for PMU mares, and they are having a 'farm day' on May 1st. There is going to be a band, vendors, games for the kids, etc. One of the things they asked me to do was to take pictures... kinda like one of those things where kids sit on bales of hay, or stick their head in a cut out.

Is this just simple 'tethering', or does it require a special program?

You can tether or use multiple cards. Either way should work fine. I did this aty kids Halloween party for school. I shot tethered directly into Lightroom and my son printed with a premade Lightroom template. Although it was fast the printer is what slowed me down and I couldn't keep up! Of course this was the most popular booth and we were always backed up. 3 minutes a pic is a long time when you have 15-20 families in line! Most people had to come back and get their pics.

So you CAN shoot directly into LR then? If thats the case then I'll just take the laptop and hook it up to the printer.

This is going to be really small scale stuff, and probably out in the middle of the pasture. I just didnt' want to have to be inserting and removing cards all day long. Shoot, upload, print....

I'm assuming that I 'tether' with the camera to usb cable, and not one of the other 'out' out ports on my camera?

It really that easy to shoot directly into the laptop?

I guess I was trying to make it harder.....

Not to hijack your thread, but what are the wireless options for getting from camera to computer?

Depends on your camera. There are wireless grips like the WFT-E5A or wireless cards like the EYEfi. The wireless grips are around a grand.
