I'm considering a good quality home printer. I don't need to make posters, but 11x14s would be nice from time to time. I don't want to spend a bunch. A few hundred is fine. Any thoughts?

I have a five year old Epson R1800 which prints up to 13 X 19 and I really like the print quality. The downside is ink usage.

Check EBay for a Canon Pixma 9000 (Mark II) There are MANY in brand new condition for sale at much lower than MSRP becuase they were bought with a camera and simply have the UPC code cut out of the box so the purchaser could fulfilll the mail in rebate.

I've never used one, but the reviews I have read say they are better than the Epson and they do print 13 x 19.

If you have a Microcenter store around you, I would go buy the Epson Stylus Photo 1400 it prints up to 13x19 and it's on sale for $199!
Prints AWESOME!
Then you can go to Sam's or Costco and buy the full set of inks for $62 which is cheaper than buying all the inks @ Best Buy or Microcenter or Office Depot!

good luck!

If you plan to sell prints or want your prints to last longer then I would personally rule out any Dye based printers.

An Epson R1900 is a good choice. If you have the extra cash a 3880 or 4880 are next in line.

The problem with printers is that you don't get all the bells & whistles until you get to 17" printers. I really wish somebody would make a printer with all the goodies and takes 11x14 paper.

The r1900 is pretty close to the 3800 (exception being the width). In fact it can take roll paper, but does not have a cutter. For home use I think the r1900 is probably the best thing you can get unless you want to shell out more the a 3800 or 3880

Bought one (NIB) off Craigslist in a local parking lot for $200. I've been pleased.

I have had 3 epson printers and never been unhappy. The r260 I have now uses Claria high definition ink which is great. Also use highest quality epsn paper with it. I think its a great combination. The 1900 is my next purchase.

Epson 3880 17" printer, I think it will do what you need. I have the 4880 and it is overkill for me, plus it leaves this totally annoying border along one side of the print which is much bigger than the other borders, and I have no way to fix the issue.
