Wanted: consumer printer for 11" X 17" or larger - 08-04-2010, 04:04 PM

I'm looking for a printer for a friend who will sometimes print fairly large prints, but wants to do his own work instead of outsourcing.

Any info. including cost comparisons of usage would be helpful.

Thank You

epson, which I recommend for photo prints, likes to make inkjets that print larger than 11x17.

here's a few...

Canon. I don't know what they offer in a 13" printer, but the 17" 5000/5100 series is quite good. I have a 5000 and love it.

Epson is running rebates right now on their Pro printers-3880 and up.

The prices in the Epson link above are high. You can beat those prices from other online sources. GOOGLE!

ps: I have owned and used 2 13" consumer Epson printers. They print fine. Until the ink runs out. Very quickly. Then it's $50 for more ink. For a few more prints. The pro printers with 80ml-120ml-130ml-220ml ink cartridges offer much more affordable ink prices.

Atlex.com has the Epson 3880 for 799 after rebate, but the offer ends today. The $300 rebate goes for a bit longer though.

i MISSED THE INFO. ON THE $799 PRICE. i JUST PUT A 3880 IN MY CART. tHE CHECK OUT PRICE IS $1,119. After the $300 rebate, the net price, at my door, is $819. Which includes about $400-$500 worth of ink. Not bad.
