Printing Problems - 05-10-2011, 10:11 AM

This is the smartest group of people I know, and I hope someone can help me. When I put in my print parameters, (using CS5) the end result is shifting the image when it's printed. For example, I want to print an 11x14 image on 11x17 paper. Instead of centering the image, it prints close to one side (the bottom of the image) leaving only about 1/4" margin and shifts the image to about 1.5" from the left side.

I've also had difficulty in printing from Power Point on my notecards. This is happening on both my Canon printers - Pixma 9500 and Pro900MarkII. Any suggestions? I've reloaded my print drivers, software and cleaned the registry. I am using Windows XP. I have a show coming up in Lawton this weekend. HELP!

I'm at work, so working from memory.
Somewhere in the print driver is a window to tell the printer where to start the print. You can specifiy distances from top & side or you can specify centered. Also, your image size needs to be set to your final size on paper. If you want the photo to be 11x14 set the image size to either 11" (width) or 14" (long dimension). Unless you crop to that aspect ratio, you can't have both.
By the way, are you really printing 11" wide on 11"x17" paper?

Thanks for the reply - I checked all the settings you suggested and they're all accurate. I'm still having issues though. I'm printing on 11x17 b/c I use Ilford Gallerie paper and it doesn't come in 11x14. Perhaps I should re-think.

You should be able to print any size image centered on 11x17. I also seem to remember the print preview acting funny based on picking Landscape or Portrait. In the instance I remember, I had to select the opposite of what I thought was correct.
That said, printing from Lightroom is WAYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY easier for me than trying to use Photoshop.
Red River Paper offers 11x14 in most of their papers. Very attractive prices too. I really like their Aurora Natural and all of their satin (luster-semi gloss) papers.

Thanks Wayne. I use Red River for my notecards (which are being discontinued!) and I have tried their metallic paper which I like. I guess it's stupid to use 11x17 for 11x14, but it's just what I've always done. My 8x10s are perfectly centered on 8.5x11 paper, it's just the 11x14 on 11x17 where I have an issue - and it just started doing that this week. I'll re-think my printing sizes after my show this weekend. Appreciate your help.

Good luck with the show. I'm envious.
