Photos posted on line question

I post web photos that have been downsized for the web, 72ppi resolution, is that enough to prevent someone from downloading and printing a copy for their use.
I had read that by doing that, the resolution on the image would be so bad that a decent print could not be made...any truth to that, or do I need to be doing something else?
I hate using a watermark, as I feel it distracts from the presentation on line.

try one for yourself, assuming you have a printer. a file saved at 72ppi printed at 5x7 will look like total crap.

Yea, this is true, but the only way to safe guard that is a watermark....right?

The only way to safe guard against that is to not put it on the web. Watermarks can and have been removed.

Yep I saw the other day on web site Giveaway of the day a software program that took out watermarks for you.............I said to myself are you kidding me.
