Need some suggestions on large scale (size) - 11-19-2006, 08:33 AM

My father in law has asked me to elicit some help on shooting for and printing large size banners. He wants to know how low the megs on the camera can be to "get by" shooting for print production of 2 ft x 3ft vertical, i.e. a full length person printed on a vertical banner2' x 3'. He also wants some information on printers that can handle this size and uses ink bottles or wells instead of cartridges. I am pretty sure Epson roll printers can do this but an not sure about the wells (bottles). Yes he needs to know the least expensive he can get by on this. Large scale prodcution on a shoestring budget should be our motto.

Anyone give any help on this it would certainly be appreciated.

First thing is how far away from the clients eyeballs will the banner be. A Banner hung 10-15 ft off of the ground can get by with a lower rez density than one that is at close to eyeball level and say it is being hung over a street at even a higher height you can get by even moreso.

Now you can always go film and have the negatives scanned, depends on how much of this work you are going to do. Drum scans can be at various levels and usually have a one day turn around at a larger lab (mail the negs in and have the files mailed back on a CD or DVD-generally too large to e-mail, there are labs in Dallas and Houston that can do this).

Actually I think the Banners are going to be hung on the outside of a mobile photo unit. I know that the closer you are the grainer they are. They will be about 6-8 feet away from them. He wants to be able to do this all from within the mobile imagin unit.

Any info on a printer?

Here's how to go very large...

Think about using interpolation software...
