Shooting / Printing on location.... - 07-31-2007, 04:00 PM

I was contacted today by a friend of mine asking if I would be interested in shooting a "celebrity" on location at a golf course for a fund raising tournament. He said they needed photos taken on location and then printed right then for the golfers to take with them.

The shots would be at a tee-box and they could "donate" x-amount of dollars and get an autograph and a photo with the celeb.

My question is this... What is needed to tether my D200 to my macbook and would a printer connected via usb be good enough? I haven't committed one way or another so I just thought I would throw this out there for ideas & opinions.

Thanks!

If they need like a 4x6 photograph I use an Espon PictureMate and I can print in two ways. If I need to print with no editing and more then one pose, I connect my camera via USB from my Canon 20D to the USB port of my Epson. Check to see if you D200 has PicBridge support. Or take a few memory cards and take a few pictures and insert them in the Epson's PictureMate's built-in card reader and print them from there ans the first batch is printing be taking picuters of the next batch and ulternate memory cards as needed. I use this system at weddings alot and it works great...OOHH and shot in small jpeg mode not RAW, these printers only print in jpeg. And in small jpeg the file is good enough to get good detail and not large enough to slow doown your printer. With the Epson PictuerMate you only have two sizes and that is 4x6 and wallet. It will print 4x6 as default so you dont have to spent time inporting and sizing your photos.
If they need and thing larger I use an Epson R320 printer, I can print up to an 8 1/2 x 11 on site.
Now if your Camera does not support PicBridge just use the alternating memory cards system I mentioned above.
If you need more detail on How I do it, please feel free to e-mail me here and I can give you more details.

Good Luck...

My HP Photosmart 385 also does 4x6, works with or without a PC, and will work on an optional battery pack. It's 8.5"x4.5"x4.75".
