Epson P2000

This is a discussion on Epson P2000 within the Printroom forums, part of the Photography Information category; I'm considering on purchasing an Epson P2000. Anyone have a P2000? What are your pros and cons?...

i don't have the p2000, but i do have the archos av400 and am very happy with it...

i've never timed the download speeds, frankly that is not an issue - reliability is my issue, and i've banged this thing around a ton, and it's still working wonderfully - it's also a jam up mp3 player...

AND you can get them locally at compusa and for like 20 extra bucks, you get a year long replacement package..something goes wrong..take it back, get a new one...right there, no shipping. i've used that policy on my printer (canon 9900) - gotta run -= lightning just hit like across the street!

I have the P-2000 and I could not possibly think of leaving home without it.

I delibrately dropped the one at the store to see how it held up. Epson has really got a product on their hands. Heck, I just got the email the other day saying they had finally restocked their own online store.

The only con is that it does not have any protection for its screen. You will have to take it easy with that part of it.

If you get it you will love it. Also, it fits into your digital workflow easily. And it has great battery life.

If you have any questions about it I will be more than happy to answer them.

I shoot mainly JPEG photos with my Nikon D70 and a 1G Lexar CompactFlash card. So I was hoping that the Epson P2000 with a 30G hard drive would be plenty of memory support (300 JPEGS x 30G = 9,000 JPEGs) for me with an outstanding viewer. I have no other uses (i.e. music) planned for the P2000.

This will be perfect for you. Just remember it is actually a 40 gig unit. I would caution you though. Remember it has alot of moving parts that you are shaking when you use it. Don't let this be the only place that you keep your pictures.

Always make backups.

Thanks,
I shoot the same way so I was wondering the same thing.
From what I've read, it reads and displays nikon nef and I'm pretty sure canon raw too. But it will not allow you too zoom in... thumbnails only.
Someone please correct me if I'm wrong

That sucker is going on my xmas list. :D

You are right you cannot zoom in on the raw files of either camera. But the jpg's you can zoom in 1500%. Also all of the shot information and histogram is only viewable on the jpgs. I shoot so that I get both the raw and the jpg output from my camera.

Kinda like having your cake and eating it too

I have a P-2000 and I absolutley LOVE it!

The screen really is good enough to make important decisions about your photo's in the field.

You do have to be aware of the many limitations of RAW files, but it has finally replaced my laptop for trips.

P-2000 owners, check out this tip!
Charge the P-2000 in the field using 4 AA batteries It really does work!

LCD Scratch Protector - 09-07-2005, 10:59 AM

I just installed Fellowes WriteRight Micro-Thin Screen Protector on my Epson P2000 LCD screen. Works great on PDAs as well as the P2000.

Just bought one and I already love it (Again I hate Shutterfly for showing me his - he is an evil man )

Its a great little package. The Built in CF and SD slots (both of which I use with my MarkII) was the selling point along with the amazing LCD screen. I have everything from my porfolio work to my ProShow Gold Video Samples on it and still have room for Music MP3's and enough room for me to shoot a wedding or vacation without any problems. The Video out is nice and I have been listening to MP3's on it since about 7 this morning and still have over half the battery power on it. While it is not the best MP3 player out there (IPOD rule that area) this is about the best overall best of both worlds you can find. If you can afford it BUY IT you wont be sorry.

I had the chance to play with one last Saturday morning down at Precision Camera and I was amazed at the brightness and clarity of the screen. It is beautiful! It's been on my wishlist for a while based on specs alone, but now I know that it's definitely worth the money. Now where do I get that money...

Other than Precision Camera, any other stores carry these in the Houston area??
They were impossible to find earlier this summer.
