Sub $200 Photo Printer? - 09-19-2005, 10:00 PM

I'm looking for a photo printer that would be portable (well, luggable - easy to set up and take down), appropriate for event photography (where printing on the spot is required)... but under $200. I'd love something under $150, even....

Oh, and I would love it to print up to 8x10

Am I dreaming?

NO, you are not dreaming. I print many really nice prints on an Epson R200. I got it for 99bucks. It does have six ink cartridges, which can get pricey. But it really prints a good print up to 8.5X11.

I have a $70 Epson R200 which prints great for a sub $100 printer. Not very fast but the quility is great. What is the largest size you need to print?

I've got a Canon i900d (discontinued now) which does a GREAT job. You can probably get its replacement or a leftover for a VERY good price.

HP's printers do a very good job also and can be had very inexpensively - specially their new one (the 8250) can print a 4x6 print as fast as 14 seconds!

I will add my vote for the Epson R200.
And incidentally, I was in Fry's yesterday (Plano) and they had a rebate which made it $49.

Best Buy has the R200 on for $80 after$20 instant savings then there is a rebate of $20 to make it $60. I bought one as I want to use it to print onsite proof sheets and want to buy another for backup.

R200 Printer - 09-20-2005, 03:46 AM

I have the Epson R200 printer, not very fast, but excellent prints. You can get it at Fry's for about $70.00. It prints cd label's directly on the cd.

Ooh... bonus. Nice feature to have, but not one I was seeking.

I have an HP 7450 that I orginally got for 150 but the price has dropped since then. I've done a few class reunions with it and printed up to 8x10 with very good quality. There are several in the HP Photosmart series less than $150.00 that shoud do the job for you.

One more vote for the R200, great prints, a little slow but most printers are. I bought it for $50 after rebate. To upgrade to a printer that handles larger paper and 8 inks costs $550, so unless you print a lot of larger prints you cannot make it pay out.

I have a canon i960 (discontinued) and an epson R200. The canon blows it away...if you are gonna be selling prints I would go with a higher model epson or look at the Canon i6000D or iP5200.

I also bought one of those Canon i960 for my daughter. Got it at clearance for like $49. It shares the same ink system as my i900d so I save on ink by not having to stock multiple types. It does a great job too.
