Epson R2880 problems... - 02-03-2009, 11:35 PM

I just bought this printer from HCE a day ago. I printed a few things the first day, and the ink was depleted at an astonishing rate. Almost unbelievable. I went in today and spent $100 on more ink. Anyway, the VLM cartridge was due for a change, so I changed it. It worked for exactly ONE print, then suddenly ceased to be recognized by the printer. The printer simply leaves a message stating that the VLM cartridge is not recognized. The printer will not print at all, I have a meeting tomorrow that requires the rest of these prints, and Epson Tech Support is nowhere to be found. I have been trying to call them since 8:50 this evening, but it would simply hang up after a brief message. I tried emailing them, no answer... I tried web support, Tried google... Can't find anything. I removed and reinstalled, Turned off and on... everything I could think of.... nothing. Anyone know what may be wrong?

Problem solved. Bad chip in the cartridge.

And yeah, you need to step up to a 3800 or better if you don't want to change cartridges every 5 minutes...

Hi Jason, I should have went for the 3800 to begin with, I regret that. But I have recently installed an inkjetfly continuous ink system, and I profile my own papers. My prints look exactly the same as they did with the epson inks.

How much did you print the first day? I have the 2880 and have had no problems with ink. So far I have printed more than 18 8x10 and 3 13x19 and it says my black is getting low.

I think I printed 9-10 13X19's before I started to have to replace cartridges. After that, it became ridiculous. I was running to the store grabbing cartridges every other day until I decided to get the CIS. I wouldn't recommend the CIS unless you have a way to profile your own papers.

Hi Jason I am considering purchasing the 3800 to use for my events. I was just wondering if it will be a good investment.
