a survey of London's remaining professional darkrooms

It's more than a survey. It is a visual requiem for the Professional Darkroom.

I miss the darkroom's ambience, the physicality of dodging and burning, the shaping of the light"

Richard Nicholson, May 2008

There are more of us than most people realize that are still working "in the dark". The professional darkroom is almost gone, but the reports of the amateur darkroom's death have been a bit premature.

...but we have seen the light. There is a huge redistribution of darkroom hardware going on. From dust collectiong to working. That is most encouraging. The number of rescued 8x10 enlargers is growing. The number of folks working with ancient processes is growing.

Heavy metal is permanent.
